For Schools

Where Play
Meets Purpose.

Curriculum-aligned lesson plans, real-world science, and strategic gameplay — designed for ages 10 and up. No prep required.

Why It Works

The Future Farmer isn’t a worksheet in disguise. It’s a strategic card game rooted in real forestry and sustainable agriculture science — built by a practicing forester. Students don’t just learn about sustainability, they make decisions about it.

🎓 Curriculum-Aligned

Maps to geography, environmental science, biology, and sustainability learning outcomes. Every card links to real ecological principles.

🎲 Built for Engagement

Strategic decision-making, risk assessment, and resource management keep students thinking critically — not just memorising facts.

✅ No Prep Required

Open the box, read the quick-start rules, and play. Teacher guides handle the rest — discussion prompts, learning objectives, and assessment rubrics included.

What Students Learn

The Future Farmer was designed by a practicing forester. Every card in the deck reflects real ecological dynamics — from how agroforestry systems build soil carbon to why monocultures collapse under pest pressure. Students don’t memorise definitions; they experience cause and effect through gameplay. When a Drought destroys an unprotected farm, or a well-placed Innovation saves one, the science sticks because it mattered in the moment. Here are six cards from the game and the real-world topics they open up.

Farm Module · +3 PES Food Forest

“An edible forest garden mimicking natural forest structure. Multiple layers of trees, shrubs, herbs, and ground cover. Open market 24/7.”

Students explore: Forest canopy layers, permaculture design, how vertical diversity maximises photosynthesis and food production on a single plot of land.

Farm Module · +2 PES Intercropping

“Grow two or more crops in the same field at the same time. Like a conga line at a wedding — better together.”

Students explore: Companion planting, nitrogen fixation, how biodiversity in agriculture reduces pest pressure and improves yields compared to monocultures.

Innovation · +1 PES No Tillage

“Do not disturb your downstairs neighbours. Plant directly into undisturbed soil to preserve structure and boost organic matter.”

Students explore: Soil biology, the role of fungi and earthworms, how conventional tilling releases stored carbon and degrades soil structure over time.

Innovation Water Harvesting

“All your Farm Modules are immune to Drought. Water for every farm.”

Students explore: The water cycle, rainwater capture techniques, how water scarcity drives conflict and migration, and why water management is central to climate adaptation.

Challenge Drought

“Destroy all Farm Modules of one opponent worth 3 or fewer credits. It’s a growing problem.”

Students explore: Climate change and extreme weather, why low-resilience farms fail first, and how diversification and water management create natural defences.

Farm Module · +5 PES Forest Conservation

“Preserve and protect forest ecosystems. Maintain biodiversity, prevent deforestation, and promote sustainable land use. Have you heard of wild pets?”

Students explore: Deforestation and its global impacts, ecosystem services, carbon sequestration, and why the highest-value card in the game is about protecting what already exists.

Partnerships

Partner With The Future Farmer

Are you a teacher, school, or educational organisation who wants to go beyond a single classroom set? We’re building long-term partnerships with schools that share our belief that play is one of the best ways to learn about the living world. Partner schools shape the curriculum, help test new expansions with real students, and become part of a growing network of classrooms doing this work together.

🤝 Co-Develop Lessons

Work directly with us to adapt lesson plans to your curriculum, language, and local ecosystem. Your feedback shapes the next edition of the teacher guide.

🧠 Playtest Expansions

Partner classrooms get early access to new expansion cards and exercises, and their students’ feedback goes straight to the designer’s table.

🌏 Join the Network

Connect with partner schools across countries. Share student projects, exchange lesson variations, and feature your classroom’s work on our blog.

🎁 Discounted Sets

Partner schools receive ongoing discounts on class sets, free replacement cards, and complimentary access to every future expansion.

Learning Campaign

Recommend a School

Know a school that should be part of the Future Farmer learning campaign? Maybe it’s in a community recovering from wildfire, flood, or drought. Maybe it’s a rural classroom without access to modern learning materials. Maybe it’s a teacher you admire who has been doing beautiful work with very little. Nominate them, and we’ll reach out to see how we can help — with donated decks, lesson plans, and a place in our growing network of partner classrooms.

Anyone can nominate

Students, parents, teachers, neighbours, alumni — if you know the school, you can recommend it.

Donated by the Fund

Selected schools receive free decks, teacher guides, and lesson plans, funded by the 20% Future Farm Fund.

Chosen quarterly

We select new schools every three months. You’ll hear back from us whether or not your nomination is chosen.

Nominate a school

Tell us about the school and why you think they should be part of the learning campaign.

We review every nomination with care. You’ll hear back from us.

Grow the Next Generation

Every game sold plants a tree. Every lesson plan inspires a future farmer. Every backer grows The Grove.
